while I am very proud of our work as xplozion, our greatest moment was never captured. While delivering a giant hdtv in his ford ranger, gary SANG the entire sax solo to supertramp’s “logical song”. it was inspiring.

castaway, volume 1
For the last year and a half or so, I have been clocking a lot of hours as a designer/ animator for 31 design. In that time, I’ve worked on a bunch of projects I’ve been pretty proud of. But like all projects, lots of changes are made during the process. So like I said in an earlier post, I want to use this site to show stuff I’ve done that I am proud of but didn’t make it to the final product.
Today’s installment was something I did for viacom. The final piece mixes all types of animation but I wanted to open with stop motion. I got it in my head that I wanted to do a complicated camera move with a man grabbing some running shorts and putting them on. I’ve posted the original greenscreen shot and the fairly final end composite below:
In the end, everyone felt the human character wasn’t weird enough so I kept the camera move and made a weird teddy bear with a light bulb for stomach to use instead. In the end, I think the bear was a better fit, I just wish the other shot had made it somewhere. And now it has. HOORAY!
here’s the final shot:

My friends, Justin and Andy, from my hometown made this. I’ve known Justin since first grade. A word of warning; there is one or two swears in it.

Here’s an open and close I did for Barnes and Noble.com. Came out pretty well I think.
